From the Guide’s Notebook: 3 Best Rooftop Terraces in Medieval Taormina for Sunset Gazing

Here are 3 of the finest rooftop terraces in the medieval heart of the town, selected from a guide's perspective.

When the sun begins to dip behind the mountains, casting a golden amber glow over stones shaped across the 14th and 15th centuries, Taormina reveals its most romantic side. There is no better way to experience this magical transition than with a chilled cocktail in hand, suspended between the terracotta rooftops and the deep blue expanse of the Ionian Sea. Here are 3 of the finest rooftop terraces in the medieval heart of the town, selected from a guide's perspective.

Hotel Palazzo Vecchio Perched to offer sweeping vistas, this terrace delivers a breathtaking panorama encompassing the shimmering sea view, the atmospheric medieval quarter, and the historic cathedral. It is an ideal setting to watch the fading light paint ancient facades in shades of rose and gold while the town settles into evening.

Hotel Villa Taormina Tucked away near the striking polygonal roof of the Carmine church, this boutique haven breathes an authentic ancient vibe. Its secluded secret garden feels like a private sanctuary—the quintessential spot to gather with your closest friends for a twilight drink, surrounded by lush greenery and timeless tranquility.

Taodomus Intimate, small, and wonderfully cosy, this charming rooftop offers a unique perspective over the overlapping terracotta roofs of Taormina and the noble architecture of the 14th-century Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano. Sipping a cocktail here as evening falls feels like stepping inside a living Sicilian painting, far removed from the hurried pace of the world below.
